About

The Village Guitarist, in Cedar Crest, New Mexico, has been a part of the community since 1983.  We are a family owned business with integrity and a sense of community connection.

Ambrose Rivera, a native northern New Mexican and founder of the Village Guitarist, began teaching formally in the 1960's.  In 1983, he moved his business to Cedar Crest.  As the demand for lessons grew, he and his son, Eric Rivera, began selling and repairing guitars in addition to teaching private guitar lessons.  Thirty-eight years later, the Village Guitarist is still very much a part of the Cedar Crest community and continues to grow.

We offer lessons in guitar, ukulele, drums, piano, and bass guitar, and our teaching styles are broad and flexible.  We offer individual private lessons that are tailored to the interests of each student.  While it is important to learn music theory and correct playing techniques, we believe that it is just as important to play music that one is interested in and passionate about.

We have also become passionate about selling our fantastic guitars!  We are certified dealers for Paul Reed Smith, Godin, Godin Nylon, Seagull, Art and Lutherie, Simon and Patrick, Breedlove, Alvarez, Ibanez, and Ortega.  We are also dealers of beautiful Amahi Ukuleles.  For your amp and pedal needs, we offer Orange, Revv, Fishman, Strymon, and MXR.  Last, but not least, we are proud to represent a local luthier from Placitas, New Mexico, Fox Fletcher, who hand crafts Mallory Guitars.  You should be just as passionate about your instrument as your are about your music and playing!

If you already have a guitar that just needs a tune up, we are your people!  We are skilled technicians with guitar repairs, and we will make sure we take care of your instrument.  Call or stop by to schedule a tune up.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Village Guitarist soon!
